02 Plaster Flagstaff
A copy of a Renaissance socket for a flagstaff with wisdom, charity and justice riding above the waves; by Alessandro Leopardi for the Piazza San Marco, Venice.
Structurally damaged and unstable; made of plaster and wooden armature; dirty surface; remains of a bronze paint layer with black deposits adhered to it.
Surface cleaned by using a laser system Nd:YAG 1064 nm, a soft vinyl plastic, a ceramic sponge, a scalpel and a sharp wooden spatula; Structure - wooden armature inside fixed in order to stabilise the object; broken parts adhered into their original positions using dowels where necessary; cracks consolidated; missing parts and holes remodelled and in-painted.
